Detox: Pt 3 - Soul Detox

May 17, 2026    Daniel Robertson

This powerful message confronts us with an uncomfortable truth: we can have Jesus in our hearts and still carry toxic burdens in our souls. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1, we're reminded that God doesn't just want to make buildings holy—He wants to make us holy. The sermon identifies four major soul toxins that contaminate our inner lives: unforgiveness, comparison, anger, and worry. Unforgiveness is described as lighting ourselves on fire hoping our enemies die of smoke inhalation—we hurt ourselves trying to hurt others. Comparison steals our God-given identity as we scroll through filtered lives on social media, letting society define our worth instead of our Creator. Anger reveals that we desire things we don't have, leading us to fight and quarrel without ever consulting God. Worry assumes responsibilities God never intended us to carry, corrupting our present while trying to control our future. The antidote comes through four soul foods: right relationships where we confess and find healing, a God-defined identity rooted in Scripture, a crucified life that dies daily to self, and an eternal perspective that reminds us this world is not our home. The challenge is clear: separate ourselves from anything that keeps us separated from God, and watch Him transform our troubled souls into vessels of His peace.
