Pray First: Pt 4 - Day 3

Day 3: Praying with Power and Persistence

Reading: James 5:16-18; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Devotional:
James declares that "the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much." The word "fervent" in Greek is energeo—the root of our word "energy." Your prayers literally carry spiritual energy and power! This isn't about volume or eloquence; it's about faith-filled persistence. Elijah was a human being just like us, yet his prayers stopped rain and brought it again. The difference? He prayed with conviction, believing God's word. Prayer isn't begging an unwilling God; it's partnering with a willing Father who invites us to participate in His purposes. Pray continually doesn't mean never stopping talking—it means maintaining constant communion, like an ongoing conversation with a close friend. Throughout your day, invite God into every moment, every decision, every challenge.

Reflection: What situation in your life needs fervent, persistent prayer today?
