What John Saw First: Day 5

Reading: Revelation 3:20-21

Devotional: Jesus stood at the door of a self-sufficient church and knocked. He was not forcing His way in. He was asking. Even a church that had drifted into independence and comfort was met not with condemnation but with an invitation to fellowship. He wanted to come in and share a meal, a picture of intimate, unhurried relationship. You may be in a dark season right now, one you did not choose and do not fully understand. You may not need the darkness explained. You may simply need to know that He is still in the room. He is. He is seated on the throne, and He is knocking at your door.

Reflection: Have you, like the church at Laodicea, quietly become self-sufficient? Are there areas of your life where you have stopped inviting Jesus in because you have learned to manage on your own?

Practical Application: Before you go to sleep tonight, do what you cannot always do in daylight: sit in the quiet, resist the urge to fix or figure anything out, and simply acknowledge that He is present. Tell Him honestly what you do not like about your current season, and then tell Him that you trust He is still in the room.
