This Changes Everything: Praise & Worship - Day 3

Reading: Acts 16:22-34 — Paul and Silas, beaten and imprisoned, pray and sing hymns at midnight. An earthquake shakes the prison, their chains fall off, and the jailer and his entire household come to faith.

Devotional:

Paul and Silas did not praise God after the earthquake. They praised him before it. Their backs were bleeding. The dungeon was dark. The future was uncertain. And yet at midnight — the darkest hour — they were singing. This is the model of biblical, Pentecostal worship: not praise that is contingent on changed circumstances, but praise that is rooted in unchanging character. The sermon puts it plainly — we are tempted to say, "God, if you fix this, I will praise you." But authentic worship says, "If you never do another thing for me, you are still worthy of it all." Worship is warfare. When God's people lift his name, the atmosphere shifts and the enemy's plans are disrupted.

Personal Reflection: Is your praise currently conditional? Are you waiting for God to move before you worship him? What would it look like to offer him praise tonight regardless of what has not yet changed?

Practical Application: Choose a song of worship that speaks to God's faithfulness. Play it in your home or car today, and sing it as a deliberate act of surrender — not because everything is resolved, but because he is worthy before it is.
