Day 2: God Wants to Cleanse and Change You: Alien Encounters

Day 2: God Wants to Cleanse and Change You

Reading: Isaiah 6:1-7; 1 John 1:9; Romans 8:1

Devotional:
Isaiah's response to encountering God was not celebration — it was confession. The moment he saw who God truly was, he became painfully aware of who he himself was. That is what genuine encounter does. It does not condemn you; it clarifies you. And the beautiful truth of Isaiah's account is that God did not leave him in his guilt. A coal from the altar — a symbol of sacrifice — was pressed to his lips, and his guilt was removed. His sins were forgiven. This is the pattern of grace. God reveals himself not to shame you but to free you. The sacrifice that cleansed Isaiah points directly to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, whose blood removes guilt and restores wholeness. Too many believers carry shame that has already been dealt with at the cross. They identify with their sin rather than their Savior. But 1 John 1:9 is clear — when we confess, God is faithful to forgive and to cleanse. This is not a one-time event but an ongoing relationship of honesty and trust. Sanctification is a process. You are not expected to be perfect today. You are expected to be moving toward him. The closer you get to God, the more you begin to look like God. Do not focus only on how far you have to go. Remember how far he has already brought you.

Reflection Questions:
  • Is there an area of your life where you have been carrying guilt that God has already forgiven?
  • What is the difference between being cleansed by God's grace and trying to clean yourself up before coming to him?
  • Where do you see evidence of God's ongoing work of change in your life?

Practical Application: Write down one area of your life where you sense the Holy Spirit calling you toward greater freedom. Confess it honestly to God today. Then write out 1 John 1:9 and place it somewhere you will see it throughout the week as a reminder of what God has promised.
