Day 4: God Meets Us in Crisis and Suffering: Alien Encounters

Day 4: God Meets Us in Crisis and Suffering

Reading: Psalm 46:1-5; Romans 8:28; Isaiah 43:1-3

Devotional:
It was in the year that King Uzziah died that Isaiah saw the Lord. The timing is not incidental. Crisis has a way of stripping away everything we have been leaning on so that we are finally forced to look up. Uzziah had been a source of national stability, a symbol of strength and leadership. When he died, the nation was shaken. And it was in that shaking that God showed up — not to explain the crisis but to reveal himself as greater than it. This is the consistent testimony of Scripture. God does not always remove the storm, but he is always present in it. Psalm 46 calls him a very present help in trouble — not a distant observer but an active, immediate presence. Isaiah 43 carries the same promise: when you pass through deep waters, God is with you. The waters will not overwhelm you. The fire will not consume you. If you are in a season of loss, uncertainty, or grief right now, hear this: God has not abandoned you. He is not surprised by what you are facing. And just as he used the death of a king to get Isaiah's attention and redirect a nation, he is able to use even the hardest chapters of your story for purposes greater than you can currently see.

Reflection Questions:
  • Has there been a crisis in your life that ultimately drew you closer to God? What did you learn about him in that season?
  • What does it mean practically to trust God as a "very present help" when everything around you feels unstable?
  • How might God want to use your experience of suffering to bring comfort to someone else who is hurting?

Practical Application: Reach out today to someone you know who is going through a difficult season. You do not need to have all the answers. Simply show up, listen, and pray with them. Let your own experience of God's faithfulness become a source of comfort to someone who needs it.
